Wondering who we’re named after? Sir Thomas Wyatt, born in 1531, lived in Allington Castle, not far from our restaurant. As well as being a prominent military figure in history, Sir Thomas took the local honour of being elected an MP for Kent in 1547. Thomas’ father also had close ties to Henry VIII – working as an ambassador and poet to Henry.

Why we love Maidstone

Maidstone is a peaceful retreat for short breaks in Kent. Revel in soothing nature and outdoorsy adventure with an eclectic mix of attractions. From captivating history at must-see locations, to serpentine rivers and wooded landscapes, there’s something for everyone before or after a visit to the Sir Thomas Wyatt Beefeater. For a medieval castle that’s just five minutes from here, there’s Allington Castle – the Wyatt’s residence from 1491. Once visited by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, investigate standout features within its walls like tapestries and antique furnishings. Showcasing rooms that played a part in the story to six English queens, an equally special heritage site is Leeds Castle – a 13-minute drive away. Perhaps you’re up for a river cruise, just 15 minutes away? Hop aboard the Kentish Lady, for a scenic trip along the Maidstone River Park to Kent Life. A fun, interactive working farm, where you can piece together Kent’s rural past. Heading into town, there’s Maidstone Museum & Bentlif Art Gallery, Hazlitt Arts Centre, Fremlin Walk shopping centre and much more. The Garden of England is yours for the taking. But the question is, where will you start?
